There is wealth throughout this land,
Riches from shore to shore.
We abound in worldly treasures,
More riches than ever before.
But a famine is quietly spreading
Across this hallowed sod.
Yet it isn't bread we're lacking --
It's a famine for the Word of God.
We revel in our abundance
And the things our money can buy.
There's no lack of food, it's true;
Still, there's famine in our eyes.
So many are starving and unaware
Of the riches found in God's Word.
They die in vain, despite their wealth,
For they never knew the Lord.
But it's a famine we can end
By turning our hearts to the Lord,
And forsaking worldly "wealth"
For the riches found in God's Word.

"Behold, the days are coming," says the Lord God,
"that I will send a famine on the land, not a famine
of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the
words of the Lord." (Amos 8:11)
